Top of the line story teller

Allen Appel has such a wonderful series of time travel books. I didn't know this one existed until I was looking for something to download on Kindle. If you like time travel then don't miss this one. If you are not familiar with Allen Appel you should start with Book 1 of the series and read them in order. They are all marvelous.

Ok, but not as good as others in the series

Have loved Appel's series and I was so delighted to see a fifth story I even downloaded a Kindle App so I could read it since Sea of Time was not available in hardcover. Although I usually do not enjoy reading electronic books I had high hopes for this one. I was quite disappointed. I didn't feel Mr. Appel's storytelling was really up to his usual quality until he reached the actual sinking of the Titanic. The book was at it's best when he was dealing with historical facts, at its worst in character development. The means Alex took to set himself up in 1913 financially didn't seem plausible.
The other thing I found off-putting were the horrendous number of typos, spelling and grammatical errors. I have found that before in personally published work, but it's something I wouldn't expect in a computer generated book.
Having said all of the above though, I'm glad I read it and it filled holes in the series that needed filling. I enjoyed it, just not as much as the four others in the series.

I found this series on the bargain list, and quickly read all five books. They are well written and fast-paced, with interesting plots. I especially enjoyed the author's notes on his writing process and the trials and tribulations of publishing. At the end of the last one, he promises to write another Alex Balfour novel if enough people buy the first five. So spread the word about this wonderful series!
